EP.19 Prom-asaurus
McKinley High Principal Figgins (Iqbal Theba) criticizes Brittany (Heather Morris) for being an ineffective senior class president, and tells her that he is considering abolishing the position. As a result, Brittany vows to make the upcoming senior prom a memorable one. She meets with the prom committee, vetoes all of their ideas and fires them, and decides that the prom will have a dinosaur theme. She also imposes a ban on hair gel at the prom, which upsets Blaine (Darren Criss), an extensive user of hair gel.

Sue (Jane Lynch) announces the three finalists for prom king and prom queen, which include Finn (Cory Monteith) and Brittany for prom king, and Santana (Naya Rivera) and Quinn (Dianna Agron) for prom queen. Becky Jackson (Lauren Potter) is very upset that she was not nominated. Rachel (Lea Michele) is surprised to see a poster touting Finn and Quinn's joint candidacy and confronts him, upset that her fiancé will be dancing at the prom with Quinn—his ex-girlfriend—instead of with her. Meanwhile, Quinn has made progress in her physical therapy, with Joe's (Samuel Larsen) aid, and has regained some of her ability to walk. She asks Joe to keep it a secret until after the prom. Later, after seeing the wheelchair-bound Quinn successfully using her recent disability to gain a sympathy vote from a student, Finn starts to have misgivings about their joint campaign.

After discussing her own misgivings about the prom with Blaine and Kurt (Chris Colfer), Rachel decides to throw an anti-prom party at a hotel. Puck (Mark Salling), still dejected after failing an exam he needed to pass in order to graduate, agrees to go, as does a still-angry Becky. The party starts off awkwardly, and Becky calls it "the worst anti-prom ever". Meanwhile, at the prom, Finn walks in on Quinn standing up in the restroom and is upset that he chose her over Rachel because of her disability. Quinn begs Finn to stay for their mandatory dance, which he agrees to, but during the dance he tries to get her to stand up. Joe confronts Finn and Sue threatens to kick him out of the prom, but Finn leaves voluntarily. He arrives at the anti-prom party and urges Rachel and the others to return to the prom with him. Rachel agrees to go, as do Kurt and Blaine, but Puck and Becky stay behind. Becky tells Puck about her desire to become a prom queen, and he decides to crown himself and Becky as the king and queen of the anti-prom, fashioning crowns out of a beer box, after which the two also return to the prom.

At McKinley, Rachel apologizes to Quinn for being upset that she was running for prom queen with Finn, and tells Quinn that she voted for her, and is happy that they became friends. Santana and Quinn count the prom king and queen votes, only to discover that a mere four people voted for Brittany for king and Finn won, while Quinn has defeated Santana by a single vote. Despite the title being what both wanted, Santana realizes she didn't want to win unless Brittany did as well, and Quinn's victory leaves her feeling empty. She conspires with Santana, and after the prom king is announced as Finn, Rachel is declared the write-in winner for prom queen. Finn and Rachel dance to "Take My Breath Away", sung by Quinn and Santana, and Quinn surprises the crowd by shakily standing during the performance.

EP.20 Props
While discussing the set list for Nationals, Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz) expresses her frustration that Rachel (Lea Michele) is always favored for lead parts while she is always relegated to the background. Mike (Harry Shum, Jr.) tries to convince her that with the seniors graduating, she would get her turn in the spotlight the next year, but she tells Rachel that she wants to experience a standing ovation like she does. Later, while shopping for costume material, Tina falls into a fountain and strikes her head at the bottom, which causes her to experience a vision in which all of the glee club members have switched roles - most notably, she sees herself as Rachel and Rachel as Tina. "Rachel" performs "Because You Loved Me" for the glee club, and the club gives her a standing ovation. She then thanks "Tina" for her support, and "Tina" in turn gives "Rachel" advice on how to salvage her failed NYADA audition. After Tina comes back to reality, she talks with Rachel – who reveals that she has been calling NYADA dean Carmen Tibideaux (Whoopi Goldberg) but has not heard back from her – and suggests that she go see Tibideaux in person. They drive out to see her, and Tibideaux expresses her irritation at Rachel's repeated calls, not understanding why she thinks she deserves more attention than other applicants. Rachel invites Tibideaux to watch their Nationals performance in Chicago, and pledges that she will audition for NYADA every year until she gets accepted.

Sue (Jane Lynch) learns that rival glee club Vocal Adrenaline with its cross-dressing lead singer Wade Adams (Alex Newell) are again the team to beat. Wade's trasgender persona, Unique, has become a media star and she decides that New Directions needs a similar gimmick as well as props in order to win. She asks Kurt (Chris Colfer) to dress in drag, but he adamantly refuses, citing the fact that just because he is gay does not mean he is a cross-dresser. Kurt's refusal leads Sue to look for another gimmick, but Will vetoes the idea of a gimmick and insists the group instead focus on choreography.

Santana (Naya Rivera), Brittany (Heather Morris), and Mercedes (Amber Riley) confront Coach Beiste (Dot-Marie Jones) about her remaining with her abusive husband, Cooter (Eric Bruskotter). Beiste tells the girls that they do not understand the complexity of adult relationships and insists she can take care of herself. Hockey player Rick the Stick (Rock Anthony) confronts Puck (Mark Salling) and ridicules him for being a shadow of his former rebellious self; they agree to meet outside the school to fight. Rick gains the upper hand in the fight and Puck gets thrown into a dumpster; however, Puck emerges from the dumpster brandishing a switchblade. Coach Beiste arrives, breaks up the fight, and confronts Puck, who reveals that the knife is a fake. Beiste tells him that his actions could have gotten him arrested, which leads Puck to admit that he feels like a failure. Puck apologizes and the two embrace, with Beiste telling Puck, "You and me are badasses - no one thinks anything hurts us, but it does." Beiste later confronts Cooter and tells him that she is leaving him. At first he apologizes and promises to improve, but then snaps and asks her who is going to love her like he does. As she leaves, she answers with a robust "Me". She then tells Puck that she has convinced his geography teacher to let him re-take his test, and promises to help him pass. Will and Sue also agree to let Beiste chaperone the glee club to Nationals.

Rachel tells Finn (Cory Monteith) that she believes the glee club as a whole is greater than the sum of its individual members, and that will be their "gimmick" during Nationals. She and Tina sing "Flashdance... What a Feeling" as the glee club boards their bus to Nationals.

EP.21 Nationals
The New Directions glee club is in Chicago for the national show choir competition, but Mercedes (Amber Riley) is sick in her hotel bed with a bad fever and stomach pains, possibly due to food poisoning. Will (Matthew Morrison) drafts Quinn (Dianna Agron) and Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz) into the Troubletones number to add vocal heft with Mercedes sidelined, and Sue (Jane Lynch) starts medical measures to restore her to health. During final rehearsals, fights break out among the New Directions members, but are easily resolved because they are all working to win.

On the day of the show, Rachel (Lea Michele) is accosted by Jesse St. James (Jonathan Groff), her former boyfriend and current coach of rival show choir Vocal Adrenaline. Jesse tries to psych her out by bringing up her failed NYADA audition before Carmen Tibideaux (Whoopi Goldberg), but she realizes his intent and that his own uncertainty is showing. In the New Directions dressing room, Will is about to give the club a pep talk, but Finn (Cory Monteith) takes over and tells him they want to win the competition for him. Mercedes arrives just in time to go onstage with the group, healthy again thanks to Sue.

The Nationals judges are introduced: Lindsay Lohan, Perez Hilton, and Chicago alderman Martin Fong (Rex Lee). New Directions is the first group to compete, and the Troubletones perform "The Edge of Glory". Rachel had hoped that Carmen, who was in Chicago that day, would come to see the Nationals performances, but she has not appeared, and Rachel is despairing. Finn encourages her, and she performs a stunning rendition of "It's All Coming Back to Me Now". Carmen arrives during the number, for which Rachel receives a standing ovation. The finale is "Paradise by the Dashboard Light", featuring Finn and Rachel, which also brings the audience to its feet, and gets an approving whistle from Carmen. Later, in the lobby, Jesse approaches Carmen and tells her that Rachel is the "most talented person" he knows.

Mercedes and Kurt go to the Vocal Adrenaline dressing room to wish lead singer Wade Adams (Alex Newell) good luck, but he tells them that he's not going to perform: the recent celebrity status of his transgender persona Unique as a "poster child for any kid that's different" has been too much pressure. Kurt suggests that Unique might be able to handle what Wade cannot. Unique starts getting ready, but wonders why her show choir rivals are helping her: they should be enemies. When Mercedes explains that their group is not like that, Unique audibly mutters that she "may have to transfer schools next year". On stage, Unique and Vocal Adrenaline are a triumph, performing "Starships" and "Pinball Wizard". The judges give Unique the Nationals MVP, but they award the Nationals trophy to New Directions, with Vocal Adrenaline in second.

Back at McKinley, the glee club members are treated as heroes by the school, and there are many celebrations. Sue gets back the sole control of the Cheerios from Roz Washington (NeNe Leakes). Emma (Jayma Mays) gives her virginity to Will. Principal Figgins (Iqbal Theba) arranges with Finn and Rachel for New Directions to perform the next night at the Teacher of the Year ceremony, which is won by Will: the club does a rendition of "We Are the Champions".

EP.22 Goodbye
Will (Matthew Morrison) assigns the glee club one final assignment: songs to say goodbye to the glee club. Will starts by singing "Forever Young". The seniors as a group sing "You Get What You Give", telling the underclassmen that it is now their glee club. The underclassmen in turn sing "In My Life" to express their gratitude to the seniors.

Kurt (Chris Colfer) reflects on how his experience at McKinley High has enabled other students to be openly gay. His father (Mike O'Malley) meets him in the school auditorium and reflects on the evolution of their relationship. Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz) and Brittany (Heather Morris) then join him on the stage to re-enact the "Single Ladies" dance, which Burt says was a turning point in their relationship.

Mercedes (Amber Riley) has been offered a recording contract as a backup singer and will be moving to Los Angeles; Mike (Harry Shum, Jr.), meanwhile, has been offered a scholarship to attend a dancing academy in Chicago. Both revelations upset Santana (Naya Rivera), who does not want to go to the University of Louisville. Brittany reveals that she will not be graduating, and Santana tells her mother, Maribel (Gloria Estefan), that she will stay in Lima. Maribel later gives Santana the money that she had been saving to pay for her college education, telling her to do whatever she wants with it.

Quinn (Dianna Agron) reflects that she will be ending her high school life on top where she wanted to. She helps Puck (Mark Salling) study for the test he needs to pass in order to graduate. She tells him that with all they went through, including having a child together, she still loves him and that they are bonded for life, and she kisses him. Emboldened, Puck passes his test. Later, Sue (Jane Lynch) tells Quinn that she is retiring her cheerleading uniform and that she knows Quinn will go far in life.

Finn reflects on his high school career, and believes that he "nailed" his Actors Studio audition. After signing Finn's yearbook, Will reveals that he planted marijuana in Finn's locker in order to blackmail him into joining the glee club; Finn tells Will that he is "so much cooler" than he thought. He expresses his disappointment that he was unable to get an honorable discharge from the Army for his father, and questions whether his father would be proud of him.

After the graduation ceremony, Finn, Kurt, and Rachel gather to open their acceptance letters – Finn for the Actors Studio and Kurt and Rachel for NYADA. Finn and Kurt are rejected, while Rachel is admitted. Rachel decides to defer her admission for a year to help Finn and Kurt apply the next year. She gets into Finn's car to go to their wedding, but instead of driving to the wedding venue, Finn drives her to the train station, and tells her that she has a ticket to New York. He tells her that although he loves her, he does not want to marry her if it means she has to give up her dreams; he also reveals that he will be joining the Army. Will and the glee club meet them on the train platform to say goodbye, and a tearful Rachel sings "Roots Before Branches" as she boards the train and arrives in New York.
