EP.13 Heart
Will (Matthew Morrison) assigns the members of New Directions to perform the best love songs for Valentine's Day. Sugar (Vanessa Lengies) takes the opportunity to announce a Valentine's Day party, for which everyone must have a date, including herself. Artie (Kevin McHale) and Rory (Damian McGinty) both set out to woo Sugar with gifts, and she vacillates between them, so they move to song: Artie sings "Let Me Love You" and Rory, after he says he has been informed that his visa for a second year at McKinley has been denied, performs "Home". Sugar chooses Rory as her date.
Santana (Naya Rivera) and Brittany (Heather Morris) are about to kiss in the hall when Principal Figgins (Iqbal Theba) stops them. He tells them that he has received complaints about their public displays of affection, which Santana decries as a double-standard, citing the much longer public kisses of Finn (Cory Monteith) and Rachel (Lea Michele).
Quinn (Dianna Agron), Mercedes (Amber Riley) and Sam (Chord Overstreet) are members of a Christian club called the God Squad and decide to raise money by performing singing telegrams for Valentine's Day; their newest member is the previously home-schooled Joe Hart (Samuel Larsen). The group serenades Rachel with "Stereo Hearts" at Finn's behest. Santana then hires them to sing for Brittany, which sparks a discussion among squad members on the morality of homosexuality; Joe must decide whether he is comfortable delivering a singing telegram for a gay couple.
Mercedes breaks up with Shane (LaMarcus Tinker), but she will not date Sam because she feels guilty for hurting Shane and wants to be sure of her own feelings. She performs "I Will Always Love You" as her song, and Sam leaves in tears.
Finn and Rachel reveal their marriage plans to New Directions, most of whom are less than enthused. Rachel's two fathers Hiram and LeRoy Berry (Jeff Goldblum and Brian Stokes Mitchell), along with Finn's mother Carole (Romy Rosemont) and his step-father Burt Hummel (Mike O'Malley), act very supportive and arrange for the couple to spend the night together in Rachel's room, expecting that the reality of having to live together will encourage the teens to postpone their wedding. The ruse backfires, and the engaged pair announce that they will be getting married even sooner than planned.
Kurt has been receiving valentines and gifts all week from a secret admirer that he believes to be Blaine (Darren Criss), who is still home recovering from eye surgery. He arrives at Sugar's party early to discover his admirer is actually former bully Karofsky (Max Adler), who declares his love for Kurt. Kurt lets him down gently, but their parting words are overheard by a classmate of Karofsky's, and Karofsky flees.
Once the party is underway, the God Squad delivers their singing telegram, a "Cherish / Cherish" mash-up, to Brittany on Santana’s behalf, and they kiss. Sugar and Rory dance, but he is confused by her saying that she will miss him when he has to leave. Blaine arrives, having finally recovered, to lead the group in singing "Love Shack".
EP.14 On My Way
With the Regionals Competition imminent, Dalton Academy Warblers captain Sebastian Smythe (Grant Gustin) threatens to post a sexually explicit photoshopped picture of Finn Hudson (Cory Monteith) on the Internet unless New Directions co-captain Rachel Berry (Lea Michele) withdraws from the competition. Rachel, who believes that her performance is crucial to her admission to NYADA, refuses to do so, which angers Finn.
Dave Karofsky (Max Adler) is outed at his school and subsequently bullied by his teammates in the locker room. He is also mercilessly attacked online. Karofsky, devastated, attempts suicide by hanging, but is saved in time by his father. The news causes shock at his old school, McKinley High: Members of the staff believe they could have done more to help him when he had been a student there, while Kurt blames himself for ignoring Karofsky's repeated phone calls that week. It also shocks Sebastian, who had cruelly rebuffed Karofsky at a gay bar, and he destroys the photos of Finn, thus abandoning his attempt at blackmail. New Directions coach Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison) has all of the members reveal something they are looking forward to in the future, to remind them that no matter how low they think their lives have sunk, they should not forget what is ahead of them. Rachel and Finn apologize to each other, and decide to get married the day after Regionals.
Regionals opens with the Warblers performing two songs, "Stand" and "Glad You Came", and the second group, the Golden Goblets, are strong performers as well. In the choir room, before New Directions goes on, Finn announces that he and Rachel are getting married afterward, and tells the group to live each moment as if it is their last. New Directions opens their set with a mash-up of "Fly" and "I Believe I Can Fly", which is followed by a Troubletones performance of "What Doesn't Kill You (Stronger)". Rachel ends the set by performing "Here's to Us", and New Directions wins the competition, with the Warblers finishing second.
Quinn Fabray (Dianna Agron) asks cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) to allow her to rejoin the Cheerios, but Sue refuses, although she confides in Quinn that she is pregnant. However, following Regionals, she changes her mind, and gives Quinn a cheerleading uniform. Quinn also changes her mind about Finn and Rachel's marriage and tells Rachel that she now supports it, and hopes it isn't too late to be a bridesmaid.
Hiram Berry (Jeff Goldblum) and Burt Hummel (Mike O'Malley) attempt to devise a last-minute scheme to derail the wedding. Rachel is reluctant to start without Quinn, who has driven home to pick up her bridesmaid's dress, and texts Quinn to find out where she is. Quinn is responding to Rachel's text when a truck crashes into the driver's side of her car.
EP.15 Big Brother
As Rachel asks Finn if Quinn had never gotten into the accident, would they be married at that moment, they meet Quinn in the hallway in a wheelchair, rolling happily and telling them that she has never been happier, because she survived the accident. Quinn tells the club not to feel sorry for her and that by Nationals she will be out of the wheelchair and dancing with them.
In Principal Figgins' office, Sue is told that coach Roz Washington is now Co-Director of the Cheerios. She tells Figgin that if she can have New Directions win Nationals, she gets to run the Cheerios by herself. Then Sue talks Will into letting her run Booty Camp. After seeing the kids' lack of discipline, she lays down the law, scaring the whole group.
Blaine's brother Cooper, a famous TV actor, is back in town, and he is greatly admired by not only Sue but also the entire Glee club, except for Blaine. Cooper tries to give Blaine advice on his performance, but Blaine gets annoyed because he feels constantly put down by his brother. Cooper gives a master acting class to the club, much to the dismay of Blaine. As Cooper brags about his upcoming opportunity to star in Michael Bay's new Transformers film, Blaine becomes irate and storms out.
New Direction's seniors enjoy their Ditch Day at Six Flags Park, while Quinn and Artie go to a skate park where disabled kids spend their Ditch Day. In the end Artie confronts Quinn on what will happen if she doesn't walk again, to which she turns down, reaffirming that she will walk again. Quinn later invites Joe to Booty Camp with the rest of the club.
Sue goes to the doctor to find out the sex of her baby, along with Emma and Will. The doctor reveals that she is having a girl, but the baby will have Down syndrome. Becky tells Sue to learn to be patient after hearing the news. At the next Booty Camp session, Sue tells the glee club she will tone down her harsh coaching methods if they give her their all. She promises to help them get the National trophy, in hopes that her child will soak up their optimism through music.
Kurt tells Blaine not to give up on his relationship with Cooper. Blaine sings Somebody That I Used To Know with Cooper in the auditorium. After the song, Cooper apologizes to Blaine saying that he had always done what he thought was best for him, knowing how amazingly talented he is. They make up as Blaine tells Cooper that he would film a scene so they can send it to the casting director.
Puck talks to Finn about starting a pool cleaning business in Los Angeles together. Finn turns it down at first, but later considers it and confronts Rachel about the idea of moving to California, saying New York is her one-sided dream. He asks her to love him for who he is, not who she wants him to be.
EP.16 Saturday Night Glee-ver
After seeing that seniors Mercedes (Amber Riley), Santana (Naya Rivera) and Finn (Cory Monteith) are uncertain about what to do with their future, glee club director Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison) and Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) attempt to motivate them through the '70s movie Saturday Night Fever. Though most New Directions members don't like the idea of performing disco, they are enthusiastic about the prize Sue offers for the best performance.
Wade Adams (Alex Newell), a gender dysphoric student from rival glee club Vocal Adrenaline and a fan of Kurt (Chris Colfer) and Mercedes, asks their advice about performing in drag. They initially caution against doing so, but Sue later convinces them to tell him to go ahead so that Vocal Adrenaline will lose their Regionals competition and not be competing against them at Nationals. Mercedes and Kurt later regret this reversal, and go to the competition to renew their original advice, but are stopped by Vocal Adrenaline's director, Jesse St. James (Jonathan Groff). Once Jesse realizes that Wade is on stage in female clothes, he attempts to order him off it, but Wade proves to be a success.
Mercedes sings "Disco Inferno", and reveals that although she wants to be a star, she does not know to get a record deal and is leery of moving to California on her own. Her former boyfriend Sam (Chord Overstreet) later shows her a Youtube video that he posted of her choir room performance, which has received very enthusiastic feedback. He tells her he believes in her and her talent, and kisses her.
After performing "If I Can't Have You", Santana reveals that she is not interested in attending college but wants to be famous by any means necessary. This prompts her girlfriend Brittany (Heather Morris) to post a sex tape of her and Santana so that Santana can become famous. Sue calls the pair into her office and tells Santana how disappointed she is in Santana's focus on fame at all costs. Sue then gives Santana a letter from one of the top college cheerleading programs in the country, which offers Santana a full scholarship, and reveals that it was Brittany's idea. Santana tells Brittany how much she loves her since no one had cares about her future as much as she did.
Puck (Mark Salling) has been encouraging Finn to go to Los Angeles with him to partner in his pool-cleaning business, but Finn decides he will be going with Rachel to New York as originally planned. Although Puck is disappointed, he makes Finn promise that Finn will become successful in what he does with his life.
Rachel (Lea Michele) and Finn reconcile after their recent argument and Rachel attempts to help Finn find a dream of his own. Although Rachel, Will and guidance counselor Emma Pillsbury (Jayma Mays) suggest a number of colleges, Finn throws the brochures in the garbage. When confronted by Will about this, he explains that he feels he isn't qualified for anything. Will forces Finn to watch Saturday Night Fever, which proves to be inspirational: Finn sings "More Than a Woman" to Rachel, and tells her he wants to become an actor and has decided to enroll in the Actors Studio in New York—they'll both be in school there.
EP.17 Dance with Somebody
New Directions director Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison) notices that several of the glee club members are still dejected many weeks after the death of Whitney Houston. School counselor Emma Pillsbury (Jayma Mays) explains to him that they are focusing on the pain of Whitney's death so that they do not have to think on the pain of leaving their friends after graduation. Will makes their assignment for the week a tribute to Houston.
While shopping for sheet music in preparation for his performance, Kurt Hummel (Chris Colfer) meets Chandler (Justin Castor), a student from North Lima High School, who helps him choose a song. The two exchange telephone numbers, and later Chandler starts sending flirtatious text messages to Kurt, who responds to them positively. Kurt sees the exchanges as innocent, but his boyfriend Blaine Anderson (Darren Criss) sees it as cheating. The two get into an argument, and Blaine sings "It's Not Right but It's Okay" to express his feelings. Later, Kurt and his father Burt (Mike O'Malley) discuss Kurt's future in New York. Burt tells Kurt that he misses the boy that Kurt used to be. Kurt then sings "I Have Nothing" to express his regrets to Blaine. Following a counseling session with Emma, the two make up.
Brittany Pierce (Heather Morris) and Santana Lopez (Naya Rivera) sing "I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)", inviting the rest of the club to dance with them during the performance. Wheelchair-bound Quinn Fabray (Dianna Agron) refuses to participate, and reveals to Joe Hart (Samuel Larsen) that she is depressed because she has not been making progress in her physical therapy sessions; Joe responds by offering to accompany Quinn to her physical therapy. They then sing a duet of "Saving All My Love for You", but Quinn believes Joe is not interested in a relationship because she is disabled. Joe goes to Sam Evans (Chord Overstreet) for advice in balancing his attraction to Quinn with his Christian faith; Sam advises him that he needs to decide whether he wants to be closer to God or to Quinn. At another physical therapy session, Joe and Quinn discuss the matter, and decide that their ambiguous relationship is "something new".
Will hires Richard Lavender (Joel McKinnon Miller), "Northwestern Ohio's premier wedding planner", for his upcoming wedding with Emma. She questions the need for a wedding planner due to their plan to wed near Christmas, but Will reveals that he wants to get married in May, though it is already April. Lavender tells Will that there is no way he can book a venue that will accommodate his needs on such short notice and proposes moving the wedding to the fall; Will in turn fires him. Will then admits that he wants to get married before the glee club members go their separate ways; Emma assures him that no matter when they decide to get married, the glee club would be there.
After performing "So Emotional" with Santana, Rachel Berry (Lea Michele) realizes that she and Santana could have been friends instead of the enemies they were for most of their high school years; they agree to be friends. Puck (Mark Salling), meanwhile, presents shot glasses to several male glee club members, thanking them for always being his friend when he was not always a friend to them. New Directions then spontaneously gathers in the auditorium for a non-mandatory practice session and they sing "My Love Is Your Love".
EP.18 Choke
With their auditions for NYADA coming up, Rachel (Lea Michele) is focused and determined, while Kurt (Chris Colfer) has a difficult time deciding what song to perform. Although he sings "The Music of the Night" from The Phantom of the Opera well, he believes he has a better chance with "Not the Boy Next Door" from The Boy from Oz. Rachel advises him that this is not the time to take a risk, and convinces him to go with "The Music of the Night". While waiting in the wings for their audition, Rachel reveals that they will be auditioning for Carmen Tibideaux (Whoopi Goldberg), a famous and exacting performer who is one of NYADA's most notorious alumni and a newly appointed dean at the school. At the last minute Kurt decides to sing "Not the Boy Next Door", a song he claims is "something a little more out there, but much more me". Tibideaux is impressed by both his performance and the risk he took. Rachel sings "Don't Rain on My Parade" from Funny Girl, a song she has known well since she was a child, but she forgets the lyrics and starts over. After she stumbles again on her second attempt, Rachel is devastated when Carmen ends the audition and leaves the auditorium.
Cheerleading co-coach Roz Washington (NeNe Leakes) overhears Santana (Naya Rivera) making jokes about the origin of Coach Beiste's (Dot-Marie Jones) black eye and informs the girls that domestic violence is not a laughing matter. She teams up with her co-coach Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) and with Beiste—who explains that she was hit by a speed bag—to teach the girls a lesson about domestic violence, and Sue assigns them to sing a song about women getting out of abusive relationships. The girls later perform "Cell Block Tango", and Sue and Roz inform them that they completely missed the point of the assignment. Beiste, who walked out on the performance, tells Sue and Roz that her husband Cooter (Eric Bruskotter) actually did hit her. She explains that she does not want to leave him out of fear that no one will love her again; Sue insists that Beiste stay at her place that night, but Beiste opts to go to her sister instead. Beiste then reveals the truth about her black eye to the girls. The girls admire the courage that Beiste has shown and sing "Shake It Out" for her; she does not reveal that she has given Cooter another chance.
Finn (Cory Monteith) is worried that Puck (Mark Salling) will not graduate. Puck tells Finn that he only needs to pass a European geography test to graduate, and that he plans to flirt with his teacher, Eleanor Doosenbury (Kathleen M. Darcy), to secure a passing grade. However, she rejects his overtures, telling him to study instead, and Puck decides to drop out of school. Later, while Puck is cleaning a client's swimming pool, his father (Thomas Calabro)—who he has not heard from in five years—shows up and asks Puck for money to pay his rent. Realizing that he does not want to turn out like his father, who is also a high school dropout, Puck enlists the other glee club males to help him pass his test. After studying with them all night, he takes the test, and tells them afterward that he feels confident about his effort. However, he fails the test.
