My English Autobiography
My name is Chia-feng Hsieh, and my English name is Ryan. I was born on May 30, 1989 in the town of Lukang famous for its historic sites, eight important scenes, twelve famous locations, and many delicious snacks. There are five members in my family, including my parents, my younger sisters, and I. My father is a worker who makes the mirrors on motorcycles in a factory. My mother is a tailor who sews jeans at home. I have two younger sisters, both are undergraduates in the Chaoyang University of Technology; the eldest is a senior at the Department of Information Management, and the youngest is a freshman at the Department of Insurance. I am a graduate student at the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, National Chung Hsing University.
I have become confident since I got 300 points at Level 1 in the exam of Saxoncourt Tests for Young Learners of English on April 4, 2001. I even got the first Merit Certificate in my life because of doing well in the exam of English Listening Comprehension when I was in the second year of Junior High school. Hence, I made up my mind to study at the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures in my university life when I was in the third year of Junior High school. When I was a high school student, my English teacher assigned my classmates and I to attend the Contest of English Vocabulary, but unfortunately I got a little bit of a bad score. In the entrance exam for university, I got good scores and became an undergraduate at the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, Chung Hua University. But when I went to the Linguistics course at the first class I discovered I was unable to understand what my teacher said. I became a little bit sad I even regretted my foolish decision to enter this department. But the miracle came when I decided to give up. Accidentally, I discovered another interest. I was so happy to go to the Western Literature classes. I liked to hear many literary stories like Bible and Greek Mythology. I liked to hear our teacher analyze literary articles. Her teaching made us think more about the meaning of literary articles. These classes also made me have a habit to practice writing essays before the mid-term or final exam. Because of her relationship, I like to read and my reading ability became better than in the past. I often get very good scores in every literature class. Hence, I made up my mind to study at the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures as the goal of majoring in English literature in my college life. Gradually, I adapted to the teaching methods which our teacher taught and acquired much knowledge in the different fields of English, such as Linguistics, Phonetics, Teaching Method and Methodology, and so on. I even got excellent grades in exams and got five Merit Certificates in my university life. Also I acquired the Certificate of General English Proficiency at the Level of Elementary when I was a freshman and got 605 scored points in the TOEIC Exam when I was a junior. I passed the entrance exam of graduate school before I graduated from Chung Hua University. So I am a graduate student at the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, National Chung Hsing University now. I hope I can learn more knowledge about English literatures. I have even stronger ambitions to acquire the Certificate of General English Proficiency at the Level of High-Intermediate before I am awarded the Degree of Master of Arts in Foreign Languages and Literatures (English Language and Literature) as my present goal.
In my spare time, I like to listen to popular music, write some articles, journals, reflections, and stories on my blogs, chat with my friend on MSN messenger, watch TV programs, including Taiwanese soap operas, idol plays, Korean dramas, cartoons, English TV series and films, talk shows, and variety shows, sing popular songs, and read fiction.
I have no any working experience in my school life. I only have some experiences of instructing my sisters, my university classmates, and my cousin in English. Also I have an experience of lecturing although I talked too fast due to how I was nervous easily when I look at so many audience members. For example, my teacher who teaches me English literature recommends me to give a lecture about how to get good scores in literature courses to her students when I was a junior. Because I always do well in the literature courses, and am interested in English literatures, and have a sense of responsibility, my classmates always select me as their leader when doing literature reports. Although I have no part-time job, I still get thirty-four thousand dollars’ worth of scholarships in my university life. Because I don’t have any part-time job, I have leisure time to attend the CHU Department of Foreign Languages& Literatures Student Association 12th and work as a deputy Chief Information Officer whose job was to manage the Student Association 12th’s blog, for instances, upload our meeting minutes and photographs in our album and taking photographs in some activities when I was a junior. I learned how to assist people to solve their problems from this job. Unfortunately, I quit the job because my body became weaker than before. When I was a senior, I attend the graduation performances as a guy who operates the captions in the performances. We went through many difficult tasks for the preparations of our graduation performance. I also experienced a difficulty, but I overcame it and learned how to sacrifice myself to make the performance operate smoothly.
My motto is never give up even if you meet difficulties. When I was a junior, my teacher who teaches Methodology took my classmates and I to the Sagor Kindergarten to demonstrate our teaching. In the demonstration, I performed badly for some reason. The student was so young and active, but my partner and I aren’t vivacious, and so nervous. After the teaching demonstration, I was frustrated; I would even like to give up the forthcoming teaching demonstration. But my friend encouraged me and told me that you don’t know you get success or fail before the teaching demonstration but if you give up now, you are a loser. So why not try it? So I decided to make efforts to prepare the teaching demonstration. The result is I did well on the demonstration even my teacher told me I have potential in teaching English. After the demonstration, I know the importance of never giving up even if you meet difficulties.
Thanks very much for my friend's help, Ruth Pan who revised my English Autobiography last night.
